Background

Social media may have changed the way we communicate, but it hasn’t changed our need to communicate. In many ways, we’re better at it than ever before, but people still rightfully wonder if all the messages we’re capable of sending aren’t drowning out the most important ones. It’s clear that it’s harder to catch people’s attention than it used to be, and if you want to make contact, you need to present information in a way that fits the needs of a jaded audience. Presenting information in an interesting way is particularly important when it comes to the types of causes that have always had trouble generating attention. Infographics are an increasingly popular means to communicate facts and the relationships between them in a compelling and coherent way. They’re a great way to catch attention from people who wouldn’t have paid attention in the past. For our scholarship, we’re going to ask you to create an infographic for your favorite cause related to our topic. You can use the space to bring attention to a problem, to recommend solutions or to advocate for an organization already working to solve the problem.

Topic & Rules

This year, we’re focusing on an issue that’s close to our hearts here at Loganix: Pets. Virtually everyone here at our office has a furry friend, ranging in size from itty-bitty kittens to 150-lb huskies. We want the best for our own pets, but many others don’t get to enjoy the benefits of gentle care and loving homes. Now is your opportunity to shine some light on it.

Topic: Pets that need Our Help
Research and create an infographic around an issue related to pets that need our help. The infographic must involve real life issues affecting cats, dogs and other companion animals. Animal abuse, neglect and abandonment, for example, are problems common to every city. Your infographic can be arranged in any way, but entries will be judged on the quality of both the information and the presentation. You may want to learn more from advocacy groups such as:

  • Vokra: Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association
  • BC SPCA: The British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
  • Action for Animals
